About Us

Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church - Lynchburg, Virginia

CONGREGATION FOUNDING: In the early 1960s five families joined together to establish a church that taught the doctrines of grace. In 1969 the Presbytery of Philadelphia directed the efforts of the group and its first pastor arrived. Grace Chapel, as she was known then, was taken under the wing of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Vienna, Virginia. By 1978, Grace Presbyterian Church, Lynchburg, was an organized church with two ruling elders. Since then the Lord continues the good work which He began.

SANCTUARY/MEETING PLACE: Grace OPC held her first services in homes and later in the Holiday Inn. The congregation met for three years in the Woodmen of the World building on Wards Ferry Road. In 1973 the congregation purchased a large ranch-styled house that was renovated to provide for Christian education classes and worship.

The congregation acquired the old Perkins Park Church on Carroll Avenue in Lynchburg in early 2006. Monies used from the sale of the Wards Ferry property provided much needed funding to renovate the old 1952 building. In December of 2006 our congregation began holding services in the Fellowship Hall as renovations continued on other parts of the building. On July 29, 2007 we began worshipping in the newly remodeled sanctuary. Take some time to look at the before, during, and after photos of the renovations.

OUR COMMITMENTS: Grace OPC is a church that is Reformed in theology and Presbyterian in government. We are a teaching, worshipping, evangelizing covenant community of people who trust Jesus Christ as Lord

OUR MINISTRIES: Grace OPC seeks to develop ministries to meet the needs of church members and the greater Lynchburg area.
