Services are reverent and dignified, making the worshipper aware of the majesty of the Lord. The Bible, God’s Word, holds a place of prominence in our services. “draw near to the throne of grace” (Hebrews 4:16)
Its understanding of the teachings of Scripture is that commonly associated with the Protestant Reformation. Our theology is expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms. “justified by His grace” (Titus 3)
Our government is organized along historic Presbyterian lines. Our congregation is governed by its elders. Ruling elders share fully with the teaching elders (ministers) the government of the church. “according to the grace of God…laid a foundation...and another is building upon it” (I Corinthians 3:10)
We are concerned with “the perfecting of the saints...the building up of the body of Christ” through church ministries and programs. One such ministry is by Christ College, a liberal arts college which offers an education in the Bible as seen through the Reformed faith. “the God of all grace…will Himself perfect, confirm, strengthen, and establish you” (I Peter 5:10)
We take seriously Christ’s Great Commission to “go and teach all nations.” Our congregation is involved with bringing the whole counsel of God to the greater Lynchburg area as well as being involved in church planting throughout our presbytery and supporting missionaries in the world. “the grace which is spreading to more and more people” (II Corinthians 4:15)
Our deacons carry on the ministry of mercy to our congregation and those in need outside of our congregation. Our church fellowships promote the “one anothers” of the Scriptures. “in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God” (I Peter 4:10)
